Welcome!

We hope you enjoy the WIP House blog. Documenting our labor of love and home ownership.

A Diamond in the Rough

A Diamond in the Rough

Just look at that entryway... sigh. The whole house, really. Pinch me! I never thought I'd have the opportunity to have such a cool house, silly as it seems. It's not that I thought I didn't deserve it. It's more that I thought we could never afford it.

Apparently this is called a "great room." I concur, it's pretty great. (Pictures from realtor)

There are, indeed, reasons why we are able to afford this house. The owners purchased it in 1962 and much of the renovations look like they were done around that time. The pool is in bad shape (although it holds water!) The garage is barely standing up. There was a barn, but a tree fell on it, so its been disassembled.

The parlor where the prior owner kept all of his guns. And yes, all of those heads are his trophies.

The cool pocket doors leading from the parlor to the dining room. Look at that wallpaper!

Our closing date is August 10th. I really wish it was sooner. But as you can see from the pictures, there is quite a bit of stuff the prior owner needs to remove. Never mind all of the work that needs to be done prior to closing! In the meantime, I'll keep bingeing on HGTV and This Ole House. And maybe I'll post some of my inspiration for how we'll update the house. First up will be a bathroom. Which one? I don't know! Do we start with the hardest one first? That would be the master bath where we will be moving some things around. Or one where we won't be moving fixtures around? What say ye? :)
